Monday, APRIL 22, 2024 — TEL HAI RETIREMENT COMMUNITY PRESENTATION — Honey Brook, PA — Meet and Greet Native American-Style Flute. A 45 minute presentation, open to the public. Members will offer a brief history showing historical and replica flutes, demonstrate various styles/sizes/scales of flutes, share stories of their flute-making and flute-playing journeys, perform traditional and contemporary music, provide interactive activities with the audience and answer questions after the presentation.

Saturday, MARCH 2, 2024 – 10:00am & 4:00pm — LAWILOWAN AMERICAN INDIAN FESTIVALWe are invited to play! – York College of Pennsylvania, Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center (GPS: 899 S Richland Ave, York, PA 17403). We will gather at the flute circle booth, in the hallway bordering the gymnasium. Five different flute circles will be participating this year. This event was formerly held in Shippensburg, PA and at Park City Mall in Lancaster, PA. For more information please see the website.

Sunday, FEBRUARY 4, 2024, 12:30-4:30pm — FLUTE CRAFTING WORKSHOP – craft and assemble Northern Spirit Flutes, ABS food grade plastic in the key of A-minor, Indigenous A diatonic, and Indigenous D diatonic at our regularly scheduled flute circle. Drilling is done before circle and during break. Crafting and customizing with ornamentation takes place throughout circle time at your leisure. Pre-registration required.

Friday, NOVEMBER 24, 2023 — NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY CELEBRATION & BOOK FAIR – 9am – 4pm – Barnes & Noble, Wyomissing, PA – we will be joining Widoktadwen Center for Native Knowledge to promote our flute circle and provide activities for guests. Yes, we will be playing our flutes! All players welcome to join us at any time throughout the day.

Friday, OCTOBER 13, 2023, 5:00 pm — ART PLUS GALLERY RECEPTION music for ROBIN BISACCIA, watercolor artist — The Art Plus Gallery, 604 Penn Ave., W. Reading, PA 19611, features the latest work by Robin Bisaccia (see Bio and Artist’s Profile) during the month of October. Her reception takes place the second Friday and runs from 5-8 pm. The gallery will open its doors at 12:00 noon for extended viewing. Traditional and Contemporary Native American Flute music, as well as heartsong, will be played throughout the evening by Turtle Moon NAFC Facilitator Donna Luhrs, Organizer Helena Bunker and Member Kerry Delewski.

Sunday, AUGUST 6, 3-5:30 pm – INTRODUCTION TO PLAYING HANDPAN by Frank Henninger – an interactive workshop teaching tips and techniques for playing with hands and mallets. Everyone will be loaned an instrument to play during class, or bring your own instrument to play and/or share. Registration and details upcoming.

Thursday, JULY 13, 6:00 pm – HAMBURG AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY NATIVE FLUTE PROGRAM – A short performance and presentation introducing the Native American Flute and music at the Annual Picnic.

Sunday, JULY 2, 3:00 pm – HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US – To celebrate 8 years of fluting, current members may bring one flute to decorate. Organizers will provide supplies and help you craft an ornament from beads, feathers, leather, bindings, etc. Sample designs will be displayed. Circle meeting will begin a half hour early for extra playing time.

Sunday, JUNE 4, 1–4 pm — GUEST FACILITATORS LYNN AND ERIC MILLER (Jam Haven hosts). Flute Jamming: Join us for a fun exploratory excursion with the flute. You will have the opportunity to jam with guitars, discover skills incorporating the voice and flute and develop playing skills with others. You will even have the chance to do some Brain Jamming through Native American Flute biofeedback. What’s that? Come and find out! Saturday, JUNE 3, 10 am – 3 pm — STROLLING NATIVE AMERICAN FLUTE SONG – Riverfront Park, Reading, PA We are invited to stroll and play flute at the First Annual Good Medicine Indigenous Wellness Celebration sponsored by Widoktadwen Center for Native Knowledge. Free stuff, Native American Dance Demos, arts & crafts, musical entertainment, kayaking demos, healthy cooking demos, health education, more… a good time for all!

Saturday, MAY 6, 11 am-1 pm — LET’S MAKE NATIVE AMERICAN-STYLE FRAME DRUMS – at this workshop we will craft 10-inch single sided deer rawhide drums with branch handle beaters. A Native American drum, no matter the type, is a sacred instrument. Class size limited. Pre-register with Tree Of Life Metaphysical Shoppe and Holistic Arts Center, Ringtown, PA.

Saturday, APRIL 22, Noon-6 pm — BERKS COUNTY EARTH DAY Location: City Park, Downtown Reading, PA; Call for members to volunteer. We will need help with the free decorating craft for children and will need help filling a 1/2 hr time slot to perform Native American Songs or Heartsongs at the tent near the Peace Dove, where Barry Lee (Emcee) and Barbara Christy, of Spirit Wing, will be hosting an interactive Indigenous experience.

FEBRUARY 5, 1-4pm — NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURAL PRESENTATION. Amanda Funk (Citizen Potawatomi Nation), President/Co-Founder & Executive Director, Widoktadwen Center for Native Knowledge, will be our guest speaker during the February 2023 monthly flute circle meeting. In this introductory presentation, we will learn about Native American history in Berks County and Pennsylvania at large. We will talk about misconceptions of Native American identity and what the local Native American community looks like today. Together, we will consider this ever-important question: “How has the past shaped our present moment?” Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions. Everyone welcome!


Sunday, December 4, 1–4 pm — MINI CONCERT by SILVER WIND — Mike Mascia (Native American Flute) and Jackie Neuman (guitar) with guest artist Frank Rävenwölf Henninger (percussion), will perform a 1/2 hour concert at our monthly flute circle meeting. Afterwards, members and guests are invited to play along with professional accompaniment. You do not have to be a member to come out and enjoy Silver Wind’s original songs, expert technique, captivating voice and artistic expression!

Wednesday, October 12, 6:30pm — ANCIENT VOICES CONCERT at Bern Reformed United Church of Christ — featuring award-winning duo David Rose, Native American-style flutes & Dan Kennedy, contemporary piano), plus pre-concert by members of Turtle Moon Native American Flute Circle. Although there is no admission cost, free-will offerings will be graciously received. Autographed CD’s will be available for purchase.

Friday, August 19 (Raindate 20th) — BACKYARD DRUM AND FLUTE CIRCLE, evening (pm), Wernersville, PA — FREE, interim outdoor evening meeting at private residence, neighbors invited. Carpool encouraged (parking limited). Bring a drum to share, or borrow a rhythm instrument, plenty provided. Also bring a lawn chair and bug spray if needed. Cold drinks will be provided. Sunday, May 1 — INTRODUCTION TO PLAYING DIDGERIDOO WORKSHOP, 2:00-5:00 pm — Preregistration required. FREE event (optional voluntary donation to instructor). No prior experience necessary. Instruments available for loan or for purchase. Bring your own didgeridoo if you have one. Instructor Frank Ravenwolf Henninger will offer individual attention, teaching basic skills in breath control, playing a basic tone with rhythm and vocalizations.

Saturday, April 23 — BERKS COUNTY EARTH DAY CELEBRATION, 12:00-6:00 pm, City Park, Downtown Reading — FREE rain or shine event. Sunday, March 20 — SPRING EQUINOX CELEBRATION, 1:00 pm, Historic Dreibelbis Farm, Virginville — Rain or Shine, family friendly gathering at the largest Native American settlement site in Eastern Pennsylvania. Spectators, drummers, flute players welcome. Historical introduction, bonfire drumming jam, Native American Flute open mic, 7 directions blessing, 3 sisters soup and refreshments. Sunday, April 22, 2018, 1:30pm — EARTH DAY CELEBRATION FLUTE AND DRUM CIRCLE — Blue Marsh Lake cul de sac under The Great Oak tree (Dry Brooks Day Use Area entrance). Hosted by Turtle Moon NAFC and Dave Ray, local historian. After a brief tribute to Mother Earth, there will be a presentation and talk on the Lenni Lenape Indian history of the area, followed by drumming and Open Mic fluting. You do not have to be a flute player or drummer to attend. Please bring an offering for Mother Earth (a song, poem, prayer, intention, or physical item such as tobacco or sage to be presented to the Oak.
